LIVING LIGHT

At a friend’s dinner table recently, the conversation turned to our culture of excess. How we have to have the latest phone/gadget/dress/bag right now. Not because we need it mind you, just because we want it. We collect so much stuff this way! All this consumption leads to us walking rather heavily on the planet. And, not surprisingly, research confirms that physical and mental clutter is a depressant.

This is true too for our communication. Technology keeps us up-to-date, but also overloads us with information; messages, news and spam come at us relentlessly. And it weighs us down.

The result is less time, more stress, and ultimately ill health. This month we’re advocating a slow down. We’re suggesting a return to basics, a reminder of what’s really important in life. Drive a little slower, linger a little longer with those you love, say “no” to non-essential commitments, ignore the sales, take only what you need, and don’t reply to every email right away. Rush less, live a little lighter.

From “How to slow down” on p58, to finding new solutions for chronic pain on p48, to cultivating an attitude of giving on pages 22 and 60, we hope you’ll learn to let go, and emerge invigorated and energised.
If your feelings are another thing that’s weighing you down, our plan to arrest emotional over-eating for good, on p52, is a must-read.

Find out how to detox your wardrobe, and your pantry on pages 106 and 109. Because this month, less really is more. (Except when it comes to your favourite magazine, of course — this issue has a jam-packed features section!)

By the end of it, you’ll find yourself lighter, leaner, healthier — and happier!

Enjoy!
